Water Filtration for a Food & Beverage

Overview

TPG Services successfully partnered with a leading beverage manufacturing company to upgrade their water filtration systems at two manufacturing facilities in Auckland, New Zealand. The two-year, $11 million project aimed to design, install, and commission state-of-the-art Activated Carbon Filtration (ACF) plants, delivering chlorine-free water essential for the batching processes and Clean-in-Place (CIP) kitchens.

Project Scope

The project involved installing dual lead/lag ACF systems at each plant, featuring pre-filtration, UV treatment, and fully automated processes for backwashing and sanitation. These enhancements ensured compliance with stringent quality and regulatory standards, all while maintaining uninterrupted production.

Key Benefits

  • Chlorine-Free Water

Ensures product integrity and meets high industry standards for water quality.

  • Operational Efficiency

Fully automated systems reduce manual intervention, enhancing process reliability and minimising contamination risks.

  • On-Time Delivery

Despite contractor delays, the project was completed within the two-year timeline through proactive management and oversight.

  • Production Continuity

Careful scheduling and coordination allowed installations during off-peak hours, preventing disruptions to daily operations.

Outcome:

TPG successfully delivered a complex, two-year water filtration upgrade for a leading beverage manufacturer across two active production facilities in New Zealand. The $11 million NZD project involved the design, installation, and commissioning of two fully automated Activated Carbon Filtration (ACF) plants, capable of producing 110m³/hour of chlorine-free, microbe-free water for batching and CIP operations.

Despite early contractor delays and the challenges of working in a live production environment, TPG ensured the project was completed on time and within budget. Key outcomes included seamless integration with no production downtime, full regulatory compliance, and a reliable, high-efficiency filtration system that meets stringent PepsiCo standards.
